VN Futures Focus Group Seeks to Address Diversity Issues in Nursing Profession
The latest RCVS statistics revealed 97.62 per cent of RVNs are female compared with 2.36 per cent male (0.02 per cent were unidentified).
Chairman of VN council Racheal Marshall said: “Our aim to increase diversity does not sit solely with the focus on bringing more male VNs into the profession, but diversity in the wider sense, including race and socio-economic background. To promote this diversity, we are looking towards engaging with schoolchildren at an earlier age to encourage the potential career choice, as well as focusing in on ambassadors to act as role models for the profession. We are also planning to reflect this diversity in new marketing materials referring to veterinary nursing, ensuring they are engaging and inclusive.”
